The Baptism of a new baby is the beginning of the journey of faith for your child and a joyous occasion for the entire family. The St. Francis Xavier parish family celebrates this with you and wants to help our youngest members and their families feel very much at home. This is why we have a special program to prepare parents and godparents and to help them raise their consciousness about this important responsibility. To this end, a preparation process is offered for parents of infants and young children to be baptized. Arrangements for Baptism should be made as soon as possible after birth, or even before birth (attending the workshops during pregnancy is highly encouraged).
Parents are required to attend a two-session baptism preparation program before the baptism can be scheduled.
We ask that you schedule your two sessions within the same month. Workshops are held January, March, May, July, September and November on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Lower School Building (Sunburst Room).
When choosing your child's Godparent(s):

Godparents must not be less than 16 years of age (unless the parish priest considers that there is a just reason for an exception to be made.

Godparents may not be either the father or mother of the person to be baptized.

At least one of the Godparents MUST be baptized, confirmed, and a practicing Catholic.

Godparents are highly encouraged to attend the Baptism Workshop with the parents.

Beyond the minimum requirements, we suggest that you select the person whose own life makes it clear that he or she believes in Jesus Christ and in His Church, that he or she is a committed Christian, and that he or she would be able to offer real assistance to you as parents in raising your child and a real and effective model to the child of the Christian life. the role of Godparent and its duties is lifelong and meant to assist the child in achieving life etermal.

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. To register, please download the Baptism Workshop Registration Form, complete and return to the Parish office at least one week before workshop. If you are not a registered member of the St. Francis Xavier Parish and would like to join our parish, please contact our parish office at 818-504-4400.
